‘The Dark of the Matinée’ is the third single from Franz Ferdinand’s eponymous debut album, which BBC Music called “a masterpiece of funky, punky, suave cool from the first track to the last."
Released in 2004 on Domino, the record went Top 10 in the UK singles chart and the album went on to win that year’s Mercury Music Prize.
The song is about walking home from school, fantasising about a better life in the future and telling (Sir) Terry Wogan about it on his national TV chat show.
